Merijn Hos is an Artist, Illustrator and occasional Art Director based in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

There is a fine line between Merijn’s commercial and personal work which are both in constant evolution, developing in parallel with one another.

Recurring themes in his work include melancholy and a longing for the past, combined with a great curiosity about the future. These themes are also reflected in his use of materials, combining analog and digital techniques. Merijn is always curious about new technology. He often finds that his most exciting work results from experimentation and working in unknown territory.

For commercial clients, Merijn primarily focuses on illustration and motion projects. His motion work is created in close collaboration with his brother, the motion designer Jurriaan Hos, with whom he works under the moniker  The Hos Brothers.

Commercial clients include:
Adobe , Apple, Aspesi, Bose, Calvin Klein, Chobani, Coca Cola, Converse, Diptique, Disney, Dolby, Dropbox, Glossier, Google, Gucci Vault, Hermès, Ittala, Johnnie Walker, Mercedes Benz, De Nederlandse Opera, Netflix, Nickelodeon, Nike, Pepsi, Sonos.

Editorial clients include:
Atmos, Condé Nast, Fast Company, FD, The Guardian, GQ, Kinfolk Magazine,  M.I.T Review, De Morgen, New York Times, The New Yorker, NRC, Het Parool, Süddeutsche Zeitung, De Volkskrant, Wired, Die Zeit.

In his fine art work, Merijn likes to create a holistic experience in which everything in the space reacts to each other. The concept of the work is often reflected in the feeling created by being in the space. Here he does not focus on one specific medium, but instead considers what approach will best suit each idea.

Merijn has participated in numerous group shows and has had solo exhibitions around the world.

His as yet unrealized artistic dream is to design a hot air balloon.
